2022 Cattlemen's Tour

The 2022 Cattlemen's Tour tour served as a kick-off event for this research project, providing networking opportunities, resources, and options to participate in research for direct-to consumer producers. The goal of the Tour, hosted by Scott Valley ranchers, was to learn about the experiences of DTC operators including how they got started, day-to-day operation logistics, biggest learning curves, and business planning advice. This community event also highlighted many DTC operations, not just of beef cattle, at a tradeshow during the traditional BBQ lunch. In addition, the tour lead to other research collaborations and resource sharing between UC Cooperative Extension, the UC Davis Food Systems Lab, Roots of Change, and local DTC ranching families, resulting in more resource sharing and deeper networking among collaborators.
